Mom’s Snickerdoodle Cookies

1 1/2 cups butter (softened) or shortening

2 1/4 cups granulated sugar

3 eggs

3 3/4 + half of 3/4 cup flour

3 teaspoons cream of tartar

2 teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

4 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

4 1/2 tablespoons sugar

  1. Set oven to bake at 400 degrees.

  2. Mix butter, sugar, and eggs in a large bowl - with handheld mixer or stand mixer.

  3. Mix flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt - gradually add to the wet ingredients.

  4. Combine cinnamon and sugar in a bowl. Roll dough into small balls (about 2 teaspoons of dough) and cover each with cinnamon sugar mix. About 12 can fit spaced apart on a greased or parchment covered cookie sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes.
